It was a beautiful town! The whole place gave an aura of a pleasant resort. A hilly town (a big plus right there!) with well designed streets, Georgian architecture (the XVIII-century symmetric, strict, classical looking building facades, even if the underlying structures are often medieval, as was explained to us by a fun grandfatherly guide; by the way, the general 2-hour walking tour in Bath was free of charge, whereas in Stratford it cost 5, and in Oxford - 7 pounds) and quite a few wonderful churches and cathedrals. A lot of flowers blossoming in the sun (yes, it was again sunny on the day we got out of London!), very interesting raised streets (the sidewalks are actually on the level of the second floor of the buildings, and in order to get to the first, ground floor, you should go down by the stairs; in effect the streets themselves are like bridges, not very different from the historic Pioneer square in Seattle), wonderful river views (it's Avon again, but not the Shakespearean one, apparently there are about seven Avons all over England!), and great cozy atmosphere! I would like to live for some time in Bath (that's my highest level of the city appreciation :))!
