Obama is speaking on our campus tomorrow, and our department just sent out this email:

Classes in Ellis Hall will not be interrupted. Secret Service Agents will be stationed on all 4 floors of Ellis during the time the President is speaking. Some office or classroom windows will have blackout screens attached and you may be asked to vacate ( Read more... )

Once upon a time, when we were in Principles of Animal Communication Dr. Fisher shared a story from when she was a grad. student studying tiger moths. These moths make a signal that deters bats from eating them at night. But scientists wanted to know what the tiger moth signal actually was conveying (either don't eat me I am poisonous, or a frequency that makes bats go "Ugh what is that sound lets get out of here!"). To do this they needed a bajillion moths and a colony of bats ( ... )

I'm sorry! Obama's coming to Richmnod Thursday (VCU I imagine), and I'm soooo glad I don't have to work that day. Whenever he comes to town half the city is shut down and it's a HUGE pita trying to get anywhere :P
