what a long strange trip.....

I haven't updated in a while, so I guess I better do that.

Some of you guys already know, but my MIL has been in the MICU for a week and a half, and we still don't know what's wrong or when she will be released.

She went in (by ambulance) for vomiting blood last Sunday, they moved her to a room Monday afternoon, then Tuesday morning she had a heart attack and they had to intubate her and move her back to MICU. They were able to remove the tube on Wednesday, but she crashed on Thusday so the vent tube had to go back in, and she's been on it ever since.

They thought she had bacterial meningitis, but now they think that it's viral. They've sent the labs off to the Mayo clinic to confirm their suspected diagnosis, but the lab at the Mayo clinic had a malfunction and are having to start testing all over again.

Last Monday (her first full day in the hospital) her cousin (we call her Aunt) was walking through the hospital parking lot to visit her, and fell off a curb. Broke her left ankle (requiring 6 screws and a plate) and her right foot (so far just in a cast). We spent Monday evening in the ER with her, alternating who was in the ER and who was in Mom's room. Needless to say, she's completely immobile and they've had to bring a hospital bed into her home for an undetermined amount of time.

Saturday we drove to Philadelphia, MS to go to the Neshoba County Fair, and Stephen's cousin (our bridesmaid) called us looking for their other Aunt's phone number. Stephen's Granny had just been rushed to the emergency room with a severe allergic reaction to her antibiotic, which she'd taken many times before. She's allergic to sulfur and penicillin, but this antibiotic supposedly contains neither. Granny is back at home and fine now, but certainly gave us all a scare.

On the good side, my friend had her little boy the same Monday as all the hospital/ER excitement, and mom and baby are home and doing just fine. I can't go meet the little tyke yet, I'm waiting for Mom's doctors to figure out EXACTLY what is wrong and whether or not it's contageous before I put anyone at risk.

In 3 weeks I will be boarding a plane to the frozen north country. We're flying in to Billings, Montana on Sat Aug 19, then driving approximately 4 hrs to Deadwood, South Dakota where we will stay for two nights. Monday Aug 21 we will be driving approximately 7 hours to Cooke City, Montana for my brother's wedding. Cooke City is a couple miles from one of the main gates to Yellowstone, and that's about all there is to do there. My brother is getting married at 1 pm on Wed Aug 23, and we will stay in Cooke City until Fri Aug 25, at which time we will return to Billings (2-3 hr drive) since our flight out is at 6am on Sat morning. Our cell phones will not work the entire time we are in Cooke City (unsure about Deadwood and Billings) but our hotel there does have free WIFI in the rooms. I know we'll be taking the digital camera, so if there are any special requests for photos, let me know and we'll see what we can do.

There is currently an unidentified child up on our second floor doing some weird karate/dance moves and he's certainly entertaining me for a few minutes! Our office has a second floor, but it only covers the front and sides of the office, the rest is one big open room that they call the 'bull pen' and where they stick all of us cubicle rats
