So I have a student in one of my classes. A freshmen girl who dyes her hair purple and pink and secludes herself from groups. She is incredibly intelligent and very artistic, yet always sad. I pulled her aside today to ask what was going on and she replied that she doesn't feel like she fits in. She feels alone and hates that she only has a few

I actually read this before and came back to it. I think I know what I would do in this situation. Talk to her about your life experiences. Tell her what happened to you in school and in life in general. I know when i dyed my hair pink, i just wanted to do it. But, years later I think maybe it was a cry for attention. My home life was bad and I wanted to be rescued. Unknowingly at the time to myself. Maybe she really just wants someone new to talk to. To feel worth the trouble. Cuz high school isn't the best place to get your first impression of the world for some people. Life is hard and some people just in an oasis.
