I'm not a fan of air conditioning. It has to get very humid for me to turn on the A/C. I did it more often the last couple of years because Eddie would get very hot otherwise. For me, I would spend more time in my basement (finished) to cool down. It's also where I sleep during the last spring into early fall. I drag my spare twin mattress down two flights and set up a nice little area. Eddie would often join me there for the night. It has an added bonus of being very quiet, as in no noise from the neighbouring plaza.
It's also the place Eddie spent his last day with me.
Moving the bed out from the basement and going back to my regular bed this week has been harder than I would have thought.
elderwitty nailed it when she said that "firsts" were going to be difficult, citing adding the bed comforter for the winter nights as a first. She was right.
I loved having Eddie sleep with me. He gave off a huge amount of heat and it was lovely just having another warm body there. Though if you are a cat owner then you understand the physics-defyingness of having such a small creature take up the entirety of a bed :) It took coaxing for Eddie to actually go under the covers; I don't blame him since I hate having my face covered (can't breathe properly). But he managed to see the benefit of at least having his body beneath the blanket to keep him warm and I enjoyed his company. Later on, he started snoring and always felt a need to bathe every couple of hours (seriously, cat, you woke up just to take a bath, waking me up and then go back to sleep?).
The last few nights have been emotional and have been pushing me further towards adopting another cat. But I'm pretty sure I'm not quite ready for that. There is a cat at the local humane society that has been there for 800+ days because it's got FIV. My instinct is to rescue it.
I miss you, Eddie. I love you. Be a good boy, okay?
