Who: Deidara and Orihime
Where: Outside of Deidara's apartment building to the hospital.
When: July 26 in the morning
Warnings: Disturbing imagery in the beginning and angst.
Deidara was coming down the stairs of his apartment building. It was early morning and he had to get to work at Spencers so that he could help open the store. Even though he has been sleeping a lot for the past month he still felt weary. Of course that could be contributed to the lack of eating anything. Now he has mostly been buying food for the new kitten that seemed to have claimed him as its new owner.
Going out the front door, he went around the building to get to where he keeps his vespa. As he turned the corner he paused when he saw something propped up against the wall next to the bike. It was draped in a tarp so that it was hard to distinquish what it was. Curiosity got the better of him, so he went up to it and pulled the tarp off. What he saw made him freeze and turn pale.
Arms spread out, nailed with heavy duty nails to a base board, and legs just as open as her arms, Orihime sat there, haunched over. She wasn't conscience, and her clothing were dirty and tatterned. She had remembered being somewhat conscience when she was dropped off and covered but passed out again soon after.
"Orihime!" Deidara gave a paniced cry. Who would do this to her? This was just too sick and twisted, even for him. He reached out and lifted her face to check to see if she was still breathing. He almost gave a sigh of relief. Even though it was shallow she was still breathing. He quickly reached into his pocket and pulled out his cell phone, his hand shacking all the while. He quickly dialed 911, to get an amublance out there. He relayed the message quickly to the opperator and told them where he was and for them to hurrry since Orihime was pregnant.
Flipping his cellphone close he lifted her head again, cupping her face with both hands. "Orihime. Wake up. Open your eyes yeah."
Orihime could hear the sound of her voice being called out. She could also feel the light breeze of fresh air on her skin, and coming through her nose as she breathed. "Hnnn..." Someone had touched her too.
She finally opened her eyes, only to see a blurry figure in front of her. She couldn't much focus. "It hurts."
"I know yeah." Deidara stroked her face gently trying to reasure her. "Help is on the way yeah. Just try to keep awake, don't close your eyes yeah." He looked over at the spikes and frowned. Could he get those out without hurting her more? He couldn't just wait here and do nothing. Kneeling in front of her he looked at the nail through her left foot. "I'm going to try and pull this out Orihime yeah. It might hurt yeah."
She was still too dazed to realize who was still talking to her and the thought of someone touching her right now was not pleasing to her. "No!"
Hearing her paniced voice, Deidara stood back up and touched her face gently. "Alright I won't yeah." He needed to keep her calm. He lightly ran his fingers through her hair, like he had done so many times in the past. "'Hime, it's me yeah. It's Deidara yeah."
"Dei..." The first sylobol of his name rolled across her lips. She tried to lean forward some, but was stopped by her staionary hands. "I didn't.......I didn't say anything to them Dei..."
"To who yeah?" He pushed her back gently so that she wouldn't strained her hands. "Do you know who did this to you yeah?" In the back ground he could hear the siriens coming and they were getting closer.
"I ....can't...." She was either blind folded are put in the dark the entire time. The sirens were starting to hurt her ears as they came closer and to a stop near them.
"It's alright yeah. We'll talk about it later yeah." He needed to wait until she was in better shape before giving her 20 questions. One this was clear though. Whoever did this, did it to get to him and he couldn't help the flood of guilt that came over him.
The Peramedics rushed up and pulled him away from Orihime. Even though he wanted to, he didn't struggle, he knew they could get her down without hurting her too much. He stood by to let them do their work.
Instead of taking the nails right out of her at once, the pumped her with morphine and cut the wood around her to the minimum so they wouldn't hurt her. Then they lifted her on the streatcher and into the ambulance.
Deidara tried to follow after her into the amulance but the medics stopped him. "Let me in yeah! I'm her boyfriend and she is pregnant with my child yeah!"
"I'm sorry but we can't allow that." the medic said trying to reasure him. "You're going to have to get to the hospital on your own. You'll only get in the way if you ride with us."
Relunently Deidara stepped down and let the ambulance take her away before turning back to his vespa.
Once at the hospital, Orihime was rushed to the E.R. where the doctors operated on her dilgently for a few hours. Hopefully they would be able to save her hands, as it seemed to be the only serious measure that was about her. As they worked on her, one persom kept close monitor on the womb, watching the heart beat of the fetus. Unfortunately, during the process due to the stress on the body had gone through, the heart beat slowed to a stop.
There was nothing the doctors could do but flush the fetus out of her.
Other than that, everything about her seemed to be fine. A week in the hospitol and some phsyical theropy to her hands and she'd be up and about again, as well as some good food in her system.
Deidara rushed through the doors of the hospital and demanded where Orihime was and if she was alright. In his mind he cursed his vespa being slow.
The nurse directed him to where she was and he quickly went that way. Once he arrived just outside of the O.R. he looked around for a doctor that could inform him on her condition.
One of the doctors noticed the panicy young man coming in and approuched him. "You must be with that young lady correct?" The girl didn't have any contacts on her list. No living realitives. "Her condition is stablized, we're moving her from the O.R. and you'll be able to see her."
Deidara was realived to hear that. She was stable, which means she had a good chance of recovering. Then he noticed that the doctor didn't say anything about the baby. "What about the baby yeah? Is the baby alright yeah?"
The doctor paused for a moment. "She miscarried while she was being worked on. Her body was under a lot stress, and hadn't recieved the proper nutrients for a long time." He shook his head. "A fetus that small there was nothing we could do to save it."
Deidara shook his head in denial. The baby had to be alright it had to be. "No, that can't be right yeah. The baby has to be fine yeah! Please tell me this is just some sick joke that you doctors play yeah!" He was losing it. His hand started to shake as he clenched it in a fist to keep from slugging the doctor.
"It lost it's heart beat," the doctor replied. "We already flushed her out."
Deidara's fist slammed into the wall next to him. It wouldn't do him any good to punch out a doctor. "Are you sure there was nothing that you could do yeah?"
The doctor shook his head. "You can do see her now. We've put her in room 317 down the hall."
His eyes burned. Why were they burning? Deidara nodded to the doctor and rushed down the hall looking for the right room number. Stopping in front of the right room he pushed open the door slowly and peered in. She was sleeping peacefully on the bed, he hands bandaged up. Closing the door softly behind him he went over to her bedside and sat down in a chair, just watching her for now.
After awhile the medicine started to wear off, and Orihime's eyes started to flutter open. This wasn't like the last time she had woken up. She wasn't in a cold dark cage, or lying on a table restrained and blind folded. She was out? They had let her go? Something still didn't feel right though. There was something missing.
Turning her head slightly to the side she saw the blurry image of a famliar face. "Dei..."
See that she was awake now, Deidara stood up and took her hand gently. "I'm here yeah. The doctor told me that you were going to be alright yeah." With his free hand he brushed his fingers through her hair. He didn't want to tell her what happened to the baby.
For a little while Orihime laid there just breathing and looking at him. "Mikoto?" she questioned. She couldn't feel him anymore.
Deidara closed his eyes tightly and gritted his teeth. He didn't want to tell her but he couldn't keep it from her. "Our little one is gone yeah... When you were in surgery, his heart stopped yeah... From all the stress your body went through, Mikoto just couldn't make it. The doctor said there was nothing that they could do yeah." His eyes were burning again and his throat was tight. Why was that happening to him?
Again she didn't say anything for awhile. Her free hand moved to touch her empty belly. "I'm so sorry...." she choked. "I should've never gone out by myself..." All because of a watermelon.
He shook his head slowly as he looked back at her. "No, it's not your fault yeah. It's mine yeah. I couldn't protect you. They went after you to get to me yeah." Why else would someone display her like that if they didn't want to send him a message?
"But you told me not to go out by myself....I didn't listen."
"Yachiru said she was with you though yeah." His free hand ran lightly through her hair. "It's not your fault, and I'm not going to blame you for what happened yeah."
"That's right...I was running after her...." Orihime started recalling that night. "Then someone caught me from behind and knocked me out.....when I woke up I was in a dark cage...." Her hand started to tremble in his.
Deidara leaned down and kissed her forehead lightly. "Don't try to remember now yeah. Just concentrate on getting better yeah."
"I want to go home..."
"I'll talk to the doctor to see when you can go home, but I imagine they want you to stay here for a while yeah."
"Everyone else?"
"Rukia has been worried about you yeah. I'm going to call her and tell you you're here when you go back to sleep yeah." Deidara thought for a moment to decide his next words. "The guys have been looking into things yeah."
"I don't want to see her yet," Orihime said. "I don't want anyone else to come see me in here..."
He nodded slowly, "I'll just tell her that you're and that she shouldn't come right away yeah. I'll just ask her if she could stop by my place to check on something yeah."
"Something?"
Deidara sighed a little. "A kitten found its way into my apartment about a week ago yeah. I can't get rid of it so now I'm stuck with the fuzzball yeah. I'm going to be hear while and I need someone to check up on it yeah."
"Oh. . . ." Normally Orihime would be escatic to hear Deidara had a kitten. But, this wasn't a normal situation for her. Things haven't completely sunk in yet for her. Everything seemed like it was a dream or as if she was watching it on a TV as it happened to somebody else.
"Do you want me to stay yeah?"
"I don't want to be alone," she said. "I've been all by myself for......" Orihime turned and looked at him in question. "How long?"
"Almost a month yeah." He said softly. The signs of his hunger strike over that time can be seen on his face. He looked worn and starved.
Orihime lifted her hand and touched his face. "You lost weight."
Deidara gently covered her hand with his and gave a slight smile. "I haven't been hungry lately yeah."
A month? "What about my apartment?"
"I've been checking in on it yeah. Everything is fine there yeah."
"They didn't try to end my lease then?"
"No they didn't yeah." Deidara went back to stroking her hair. "I made sure this months rent was taken care of yeah."
"Dei......." She paused for a second and felt her eyes starting to swell up. "What am I supposed to do now?"
"We'll take it one step at a time yeah." He said softly. There was this one thought going on in the back of his mind. "Do you still want to stay with me yeah? Even though you will still be in danger yeah?"
"We'll take it one step at a time yeah." He said softly. There was this one thought going on in the back of his mind. "Do you still want to stay with me yeah? Even though you will still be in danger yeah?"
That thought never occured to Orihime. "I do..." She paused. "And I don't think it would matter if I didn't. I think I'd still be in danger anyway..."
He nodded slowly. "We'll continue to be together yeah." He leaned down and kissed her lips. "For now though, just heal yeah. I'll be here for you. I love you yeah..."
Orihime didn't have the strength or the will power to respond to the kiss. But finally hearing those words again did manage to crack a small smile. "Me too, Dei."
"You get some rest yeah. I'm going to make those calls and then come right back yeah."
"Okay..." She turned her head away and closed her eyes. No, it hadn't sunk in yet. But, she was pretty should once she woke up again, and all the meds wore off that it would.
Deidara kissed her forehead lightly before leaving the room. He needed to go somewhere else to make the calls on his cell phone.
