alive with such possibilities

I wish I had enough money to justify getting a tattoo. I am so eager to get one, dammit. Dammit!

I listened to Bright Eyes today (Lifted, or...). I still feel the same about it: 90-95% of Conor Oberst's lyrics are childish and emotional to the point of being embarrassing to listen to but I really like the music and his melodies. I don't really ( Read more... )

That Conor Oberst whippersnapper makes me wanna pull my hair out (not in a good way, I should add) I'm probably in a very boring majority, too, by saying so. :/

i like his music. becca's right...his lyrics are whiny and have a very high-schoolish feel. but oh well. i can still groove.

i saw him at cmj when i was in college radio, and interviewed him a couple weeks before that. i think i developed a slight crush on him at the time, but it felt so wrong because even though he's a month older, he looked like he was 16.

you should listen to final fantasy. he's wonderfully talented and I have a total boy crush on him.

it's just owen pallett, his violin, and a loop/effects pedal. he records himself playing a melody, and then loops it back, and records something else over it, until he's got these amazingly complex songs going, which he then sings over top of, all with one violin.

and he does things that you wouldn't expect from a violin, like tapping the strings with his bow, or hitting the body of the violin with his thumb like it's a percussion instrument, or recording something and playing it backwards.

he is also a very talented composer, and does string arrangements for everyone and their brother in toronto. he did all of the string arrangements for the arcade fire's funeral, if you're into that sort of thing.

liane and I recorded two of his shows, you can find them in the has a good home community. you have to see him live to really appreciate what he does, but you should still enjoy it.

I love photo posts!
As for music, I suggest...children's? We've been playing a game-
pick a song you love (but one that was recorded reeeeeeally badly, by some terrible band) and pick a band you think could record it really well. Today we came up with that "I wanna know what love is..." song, redone by Pearl Jam.
Anyway.
Have fun at the cracker farm. If they have any barrels...you know what to do.

kid music is great fun. i like it. i approve.

there were some peach barrels on the farm, but they were all old and broken and filled with rotten old corn cobs. so i didn't do much more than photograph 'em.
