They Come Smiling Out About the Time They Always Do

I've been writing every day. Not a whole lot, but I try to do at least a page a day. Jacob bought me a really beautiful, leather-bound journal with an old-style map of the world printed on it and labeled in Italian. The thoughtfulness of it caught me so off-guard; I didn't know that there was a 'perfect gift' out there for me, but the minute he ( Read more... )

How can jobs and hunting for them be SO AWFUL? I'm not sure if everyone feels the way I do about it, but I feel like you do, at least a little bit. It's like the worst thing that has ever happened in my entire life. I feel like, no matter what job I get, it's going to be the worst thing I've ever done. Not to mention that NOBODY IS HIRING except for fucking Target. This rant goes on for hours months. But good luck.

I'd like to see you when you get in.

Ditto... I've been unemployed for like a month and I feel so shitty about it that it's like beyond words.

I feel ignored, rejected and trampled upon. LOL Anyways, it's not all that black but I'm sorry that you guys are going or went through the same. Makes me feel less lonely and misunderstood, ha!

The journal sounds great btw! Lucky woman :-)

i know, dude. it is lame. i don't mind having a job but i hate the hoop-jumping that is getting a job. it's just retarded; i'm qualified; i interviewed well; so fucking hire me already, k? yeah. don't make me feel like i owe you my life because you hired me to shuffle your stupid papers and answer your phone.

so do you have a phone number that i can call (i know, egads) to let you know when we're in new york? or, just call me -- 917 806 8030. we'll be in town the 15th-early the morning of the 20th.

screenwriting is...quite a comprehensive detour from prose. it fucked me up for years, but in the end, i think i came back better for it. but you do have to view it as a transition. i wrote nothing but shit for prose for almost two years after training myself to sum up the entire setting and character in two sentences or less. but it's not impossible.

i eased the transition by reading a lot of minimalism and first person colloquial stories...it was easier for me to go from "good dialogue" to "good monologue" to "good description." i'm sure the process is different for everyone...but still, reading a shitload of anything that isn't screenplay makes it much, much easier.

road trips are much better than plane rides. they need to hurry up and build cars that run on fresh air or something so that we can take them more easily.

whoa. thanks for the advice, kathy. any specific minimalist writing/writers you recommend i look into?

cars that run on fresh air would be great. i always wanted a car that ran on garbage like in back to the future II.

so wait a second. i took a break from lj over the summer and now i'm kind of caught up and i know you're off being awesome all over the world but how did that begin??
