you're welcome! the writing on it says "akemashite omedetou gozaimasu" which means happy new year :) oh, and I wrote some kanji on it that says "Tiger Year"
*blinks* You mean I'm not the only person who has dreams in which Claudia shows up and there is food involved?
I feel so much better.
I also have the odd thought that if Ben saw your stone-age stereo, he'd want to send home for some vinyl. Heck, so would I. What brand is it? Are the speakers measurable in feet instead of inches? :D
heh, guess I could fire up the turntable
Crown pre-amp, and amp, ADC equalizer... and I purposefully bought a DVD player that was also good at playing CD's. Sadly I no longer have large speakers, due to my then 2yr old son, and his curiosity about the big speaker parts. They were stored at the time, and I never replaced them for various reasons related to my ex. So now i just have some small bookshelf speakers that do alright in my apartment. I just have to be careful with them, because the amp WILL destroy them if turned up too high...
What makes the stuff stone age is that, yes, you have to get up off your couch and walk over to it to change the volume or anything else. 20+ years ago when I got it, a lot of the good stuff didn't come with a remote, because physical switches gave you better sound than integrated chips and whatnot.
Gimme a big H377 yeah! about solid state controls! I HATE hate HATE digital volume control, because there's never any precision at the low end! "Too Soft" "Loud." (And then "more louder")

(Did your son poke out/crumple the speaker cones? I've seen many a woofer depart due to curious little fingers.)
