I know it sounds absurd, but watching Smarty Jones lose the Belmont today crushed me. I guess it was because (sounds even more absurd) a horse had brought so much expectations and excitement and brilliance that luminated over a country in dark times. I really felt like crying. Its hard to watch anything that works so hard to overcome adversity
