Rober Heinlein apparently once said something brilliant about writing science fiction for young readers. According the the reviewer who mentions it, "Robert Heinlein once said that his juvenile SF was so good because he wrote the best possible novel for adults he could and then left out the sex ( Read more... )

I keep forgetting to look into this when I'm at the library. I did some typical Google searches but can only find the January article you mention, rather than the full quote. Usually I'm good at this kind of research, so I'll try to remember.

I seem to have found the origin of that Heinlein thing. In H. Bruce Franklin's book _Robert A Heinlein: America as Science Fiction_ (Oxford U Press, 1980) p 74 it says ( ... )
