I personally love the verb usage - obtain carnal knowledge. Like it's something you can just go out and get.

I don't think we studied enough of carnal epistemology in Jordan's class.

I assume that it's a felony because it is punishable by up to five years in prison. I don't know what the "cut-off point" is between a misdemeanor and a felony in Mississippi, but I have a hard time believing that it's more than five years. Black's Law Dictionary defines a felony as a crime punishable by more than a year, and in Massachusetts, a crime punishable by 2.5 years or more is a felony.
