Waking up when it's not dark is really nice. I got to do that this morning, after getting a full 7 hours of sleep, definitely the most I've gotten any night this week. Too bad it's going to be getting light later and later. I hate that part of winter, honestly. I wish we could have long days, just with winter weather. Although, I know that ( Read more... )

Hm. Bloody lie? The link is misdirected, what it's supposed to go to doesn't exist, and there's no reason for me to be mentioned/listed in that community anyway.

Yeah, I'm going to add another one of those "I found you at...", but in this case it was a list of students who said they attended la Universidad de Sevilla. I'll be this this upcoming spring semester. Any tips for US students studying in Sevilla?

"Any tips," hmm... Well, it depends somewhat on what program you're going with and how many classes you're taking in the Uni itself and how many through your program. I went with CIEE and split about half and half, which worked out really well for me. It also depends what department(s) in the Uni you're going to study in, as they seemed to vary a lot regarding whether they required you to write, read, or just show up. I studied in the Art Hist dept, which doesn't require much. At all. (If by chance you are going to be in the Art Hist dept, Isabel Osuna -- I think that was her name -- is great as long as you're willing to do the work.) The Philology (Lang/Lit) dept required reading lots of books (for the lit classes) and writing papers. The History dept required projects of some sort ( ... )

Ok, cool, thanks. I'm doing the advanced liberal arts program through CIEE; I hope things go well! I'll hopefully be taking anthropology classes, so we'll see if they're more reading based or project based. A C is a good grade? How did that transfer over to a 4.0 scale for you? It seems like I'll be going over my notes 24/7 before the finals. Thanks for answering my questions!

By C, I mean that's how it transferred over. It's about a 7 on their scale (I'd suggest getting a copy of their equivalency scale for grades if you want to be really sure of where you stand in your classes; it's not exactly a point per grade.) I didn't meet anyone studying anthropology, so I have no idea how that department is... but good luck! Don't be afraid to chat it up with your classmates, either. They're good resources for finding out about how the teacher or the whole university works. Or just to find out if anything fun is going on in the city.
