I have of course, a bunch of awesome things to recap and post. But I have only so much time right now and I'm kinda buzzed, so I'd rather be on the couch zoning out. :P
First off, I started my first color painting. I thought I'd be terrified. Scared. Completely afraid.
I was wrong. I love it. And there are alot of things I'm definitely unsure about

You're incredbly talented Dani. I think the world will be seeing a lot more of your art in the future. No no..not think..I know! Start a Flickr account, or a DeviantArt account - show it off!!
The new paitning sounds exciting as well.

A co-worker was telling me how clique-ish Deviant Art is and how they rate you and how the whole popularity is a big thing. If I were going to do anything, it'd probably be flickr. Thanks for the idea, I know I need to start putting them in a better place then LJ and Myspace.
Come be an art student with me!!! :D

People can get snotty with comments on there (DA)..but it's generally the youngin' type you'd get anywhere. The nice thing is that you can control what type of comments you want - none, regular, advanced critique, etc. I've been on there since 2004 I think? Something like that. I don't use it much anymore (I've moved to Flickr), but it did help in bouncing ideas off other artists and making a few friends along the way.
Flickr is great..you can obviously use it for free but then you can only post up to 200 photos and the rest are hidden until you buy an account. It's about $25 for year..great way to store photos though. Good privacy filters and all that too. It's a great site - a lot of fun.
And I'd love to!!

We never ran into cliques, but then again, we were never very popular there. You have to really come and reach out to people before anyone visits you; it can be a little difficult. We get more art attention here on Livejournal than we ever did on DeviantArt, I think!

An idea if you plan to try another heavy-duty pencil drawing like this with masses of black background: all that solid black? PAIN. You can see the darker lines where your pencils overlapped. Actually, I think it's an interesting effect, and maybe using it to spiral around the subject, rather than the simple waveyness you have now, might help emphasize the subject and add an element of kickass. I mean, if you have to draw black for hours on end, might as well do goofy things with it.

I actually used a Paul Calle style with the background. Thick, chunky lines that were kind of reacting to the movement of the violin player. And actually, using that technique, went way faster then any other kind of black background drawing I've done. Which was nice. :P
Thanks Rogan!

Yeah shading is such a bitch. But in the end, it usually ends up being completely worth it. Its the actual process of it that makes you ARGGHGHGHGH.
lol :)

I also like the hair and the moment that you've captured within the act of him playing the violin, the shadow of the violin on his shirt is unreal.

Unfortunately the ref photo I was working from, was not mine. I claim all my work as "student work" until I actually start taking my own reference photos.
The shirt [the bunched up part on the left] and the shadow of the violin, are probably my favorite part. :D I'm glad you noticed it.
