The foundation of a relationship can be quite fragile, and honesty and openness in any kind of a relationship is what helps keep it strong. Whether it be friendship . . . or something more. But especially when it is something more.

are these things less necessary when a foundation is stronger, or would the openness and honesty be characteristic of a strong foundation?

Hmm . . . good question.

I think honesty and openness would be characteristic of a strong foundation, at least in any sort of lasting relationship, mainly because honesty and openness help build trust.

That's just my take, and I am sure there are many others.

What are your thoughts, oh wise one, mooc_c? I truly mean that, too. You're the most fun, laid back, mature person that I've ever chatted with. You rock socks! :o)

I guess I've never really thought about it, it's almost cliche to say that trust, respect, communication build a healthy relationship, but I've never really sat down and though, how can I build more trust between myself and "other person." It always just happened. I guess I trust people easily, probably because I have never been in a situation where my trust has been challenged in a very emotionally sensitive way ( ... )

haha. not nonsense, you're making me think!

Openness . . . not sure how to explain what I mean. I guess it has to do with a number of things: willing to share each other lives and dreams with one another, willing to open up to someone in that way, and also willing to share things in an honest manner. Does that clarify it at all? I realize it's still vague, but it's the best I can do for now. Thanks for making me think. :o)
