More Frozen Feels

Feb 24, 2014 08:07

So I've already posted one entry about the Disney movie Frozen, but having seen it a couple more times, and each viewing bringing new things to my attention, I wanted to revisit it.

I think Princess/Queen Elsa is my spirit animal. Awhile ago, on Tumblr, I came across this post about Elsa and mental health, and just about every syllable resonated with me. However, I have also heard tell of other bloggers who accused Disney of "furthering the gay agenda" with the plot of Frozen. Another article said that the distancing between Anna and Elsa that occurs early in the story could be interpreted as simply as the sexual awakening of the older sister, or even more simply: "puberty". And I think this is key. This is an allegory that can be interpreted in a variety of ways, you can read Elsa as just about any kind of Other you want!

Her parents give us a classic example of horribly misguided but completely well-meaning parents who can't handle the fact that their child is different, so they hide it. How many people can relate to hiding, or feeling forced or expected to hide, something that sets us apart?

Or maybe it's just me?... I really don't think it's just me.

mental health, reviews, sort of
