Hi! I am Amy, and tenacious_snail told me she shared this with you. I am so excited that you like him!!! Rarely does art make me shiver the way his did. He uses trowels instead of brushes to paint, so up close, the paint is all globbed up but far away looks like photographs, like you said! When we walked in the gallery we thought, at first, the floors must have just been re-done because of the strong smell, but it was actually the paint--still not all the way dry (and probably not to be dry for another year or so!) because it is put on the canvas so thickly! If you ever get the chance to see his work in person, I highly recommend it. I am positively in love!!!!!
Mm. Thing is...I usually don't ink "I thought it was a photograph!" is a compliment, when it comes to art. Basically, why paint anything at all, if you're not going to present reality in a new way? I can do photorealism quite easily--but when I do it, I find myself boring. Which doesn't bode well for other artists who do the same.
