Birthday Pancakes~

------

"So Rian's birthday is in a week," Alex says idly as he plays with the spoon from his breakfast cereal. He puts it in his mouth, covering it in spit before he smears the saliva over Jack's arm. Jack frowns at Alex as he licks his hand and returns the favour. "You're an asshole."

"I love you too baby," Jack says cutely, batting his eyelashes at his boyfriend. He scoots closer to Alex and nudges him with his body, waiting until Alex puts his arm around the younger boy.

Zack rolls his eyes at Alex who winks seductively as he inches his hand down Jack's side. "I know when Rian's birthday is," Zack says with an obvious tone, letting Alex know that he's not about to forget his boyfriend's birthday.

"So what are you doing for him? You've got to pamper him like some prince or something," Alex asks him with a smirk.

"I made Alex a cake last year," Jack adds with a toothy grin.

"I almost died from how much burned edges it had," Alex says. He jumps and it's obvious that Jack pinched his stomach, "but it's the thought that counts," Alex adds afterwards.

"Rian likes pancakes," Jack hints lamely. Alex snickers as Jack frowns, "He does! I was asking him what his favourite breakfast food was one day last week and he told me pancakes. Zack should make him that for his birthday breakfast."

Zack begins to plan out what he wants to do on Rian's birthday. He decides that he's going to take Jack up on his offer to make Rian pancakes. The rest of the list, he's going to run by his band mates, excluding Rian, just to make sure that he's not completely fucked up with his idea. He convinces Jack to do a little undercover checking with Rian by giving him free access to his big screen television. Alex is a bit harder to convince.

"Stop being an asshole," Zack tells Alex as he refuses to help him. "I really need help here."

"I don't know why," Alex says, "just ask him yourself. Slip it in a conversation or something. Use your charming Zachary Merrick skills to do it. I mean, you managed to get in his pants, asking about his favourite fruit in pancakes really shouldn't be hard." Alex frowns when he sees the corners of Zack's mouth curl upwards, "Yeah, I was talking about getting in his pants and I said the word hard. Laugh about it all you want, but I'm not asking him."

After fifteen minutes of begging him, Alex finally gives in, "I can't believe you're begin such a baby about this. I say you just swallow your pride and ask him yourself, but that's just my opinion. Don't listen to me."

Zack smiles and gives Alex a friendly hug, "I won't. Thanks dude." Zack smiles and walks off to Rian's room. He sees Rian sitting at his laptop, watching a video on YouTube. "Hey there," Zack says as he wraps his arms around his boyfriend's waist and kisses his temple.

The week passes by quickly, mostly being one of the few weeks that they actually have home until they go on their winter tour. Alex's birthday is the 14th, with Rian's only four days later.

Alex agrees to spend the night at Jack's before Rian's birthday, so that Zack and Rian can have the house to themselves. Rian had gladly left for Alex's birthday, so it's only fair that Alex returns the favour.

Zack makes sure that he wakes up before Rian by having his alarm set. Rian wakes up with him as Zack is a heavy sleeper. Zack simply tells him that he forgot to turn it off for some international soccer game that he'd gotten up to watch yesterday. He's thankful that Rian's far too tired to argue or question anything.

He inches out of bed slowly, making sure not to disturb Rian anymore. He opens the door only when he hears Rian let out a soft snore. Zack gets to kitchen and opens the cupboards. Alex had told him where the pancake mix was, but he'd managed to forget over through the amazing sex that he and Rian had had last night. Zack doesn't really mind searching, after all, this is for Rian.

After looking in four different cupboards, he finally finds it. It's sitting right in the front, exactly where Zack can't miss it. At least Alex was nice enough to put it in the front for him. He wrote down what Rian said he liked on the back of the box and made sure that he told Zack where it was.

Zack is no cook, but that doesn't mean that his cooking doesn't come out half decent. He followed the recipe attached to the back for making blueberry pancakes exactly and they actually manage to come looking edible. Zack tries one, definitely not because he's starving and feels like he's about to die of hunger, and to him, it actually tastes pretty good.

Rian comes out of the bedroom approximately ten minutes after Zack finishes making them. "What's this?" Rian asks with just about the biggest smile that Zack has ever seen him have.

"Something extra special for you, blueberry pancakes. Your favourite," Zack says with his own smile.

Rian's smile fades a little, "What? Where did you hear that? My favourite is Strawberry pancakes with whipped cream on top. I do love blueberry pancakes though!"

"Alex told me that they were your favourite," Zack says slowly, beginning to think that Alex had failed to keep up his end of the bargain. Zack had even given him complete access to anything of his at any given time for the next month. Including his shower with the special showerhead for him and Jack; at any given time. The thought alone makes Zack shudder.

Rian's eyebrows furrow in confusion, "Alex never asked me anything about pancakes," he says. Rian piles some onto two plates, handing one of them to Zack, "That doesn't matter anyways. It's the thought that counts; and this thought counts for a lot."

Rian leans over to Zack and kisses Zack, soft at first before Zack presses back firmly. He presses his tongue into Rian's mouth before they pull apart, smiling at each other. "Happy birthday baby."
