Master Post Would You Trade That Heart of Gold For a Minute in My Skin?
Chapter 2, Break Your Little Heart
------
Pete bursts out laughing, "I knew you two would never last. Nothing personal, but you were way above that kid. He was such a fake."
Alex scowls at his phone, knowing that Pete can't see it through the telephone cord, "I'm hanging up now," he warns. He hears Pete scream on the other end to stop, but he presses the end button anyways. He flops himself back onto his bed and closes his eyes, as if maybe he can sleep his pain away.
He's never been the type who can sleep during the day though, especially when the sun is cracking through his curtains in just the specific way that makes the light shine right onto his eyes.
Alex looks at the clock and it reads 6:17 am. The sun isn't at it's morning peak yet, so maybe he can fall asleep. He's been up for nearly twenty hours anyways and he's damn tired. He crosses the curtains over one another so that no light can crack through. He strips himself done to his underwear as he crawls under his covers.
The sheets are crisp and cold, almost inviting to him after the rough day and night he'd had. He's waiting for the bed to warm up, rubbing his arms to keep himself warm. It's fall, the time where the days are warm enough to not wear a coat, but cold enough at night that it frosts. It's Alex's favourite time of the year.
Alex tries to put Rian out of his mind, thinking of all the other things in his life. However, Rian seems to be the only thing that manages to come to mind. Everything else is insignificant. So what if Pete finally got into Patrick's pants after three months of dating? Pete had finally learned that there were some things worth waiting for.
Alex however, hadn't learned a god damned thing from his break up with Rian. Other than the obvious that Pete had pointed out, Alex was too good for Rian. Alex loses himself in this thoughts, only to be awaken by his phone's ringtone. "Hello?" he answers groggily.
"I'm sorry, I'm so so so so so sorry. Alex, please. I need you," Rian begs over the phone. Alex groans loudly in disgust, "It wasn't right of me. I'm a complete asshole and I understand if you don't want to be with me, but fuck I need you. I'm falling apart without you and it hasn't even been a full day. Alex please!"
"What part of 'No' don't you understand? I don't fucking love you, I never did! Don't be so sentimental, that 'love' was accidental. If you can even call it that," Alex spits out angrily. He doesn't want Rian back. He doesn't want anything to do with Rian right now. He wouldn't even care if he managed to get abducted by aliens. Possibly just a little, but he'd be more freaked out about the fact that aliens existed.
"What can I do to make you see that I need you?" Rian asks helplessly.
"Leave me the fuck alone," Alex replies, not giving him so much of an answer as a flat out command. "I don't want anything to do with you, Rian. I'm over you. I've been over you for so fucking long." Alex swears that he can just hear Rian's heart break in two as he says those words.
He can't tell what's the worst part, the fact that he doesn't feel bad or that he actually feels somewhat good getting all his anger out about Rian; even if it's directly to Rian. Long ass chase with a shitty prize at the end. Alex thinks bitterly to himself.
"Sure, if that's what you want. I'll respect that because I respect you." Rian says pathetically. He sounds so incredibly broken, like he's been shattered into a million, unglueable pieces. "I'll always be here if you need me."
Alex doesn't even tell him not to count on it because he's honestly not that heartless. This is as far as he'll go, telling Rian that he's over him. He can't bear to listen to Rian's hear breaking, much less it evident in his voice.
"Look, Rian, I need to sleep. I have to work later and I need to sleep. I'll talk to you later okay?" Alex doesn't wait for Rian to say okay or to tell him to have nice dreams like he used to. It's not like he minds it, but it's something that he'd simply grown accustomed to. He definitely doesn't miss it. Not one bit.
------
It takes Rian two weeks of calling everyday before Alex finally snaps. He eventually blocks the number on his cell phone just to get through a day without talking or dealing with Rian. Alex swears that if he has to talk to Rian again in the next three days, he's going to go insane.
Alex decides on a whim, that he's had enough time to get better. He's certainly feeling better than he had in a long time. He calls up Pete, who he hasn't really talked to in a while, as a result of Rian's clinging.
"Alex! We're going to the club tonight. Me and my new friend Zack, you should hang out with us. It'll be fun. There will be a lot of cute boys there for you to oogle." Pete taunts Alex, knowing that Alex has a weakness for searching for cute boys. He's been compared to a teenaged girl by Pete more times than he can count on both hands and feet. "You'll like Zack, he's really awesome and cool!"
Alex smiles, just imagining the look on Pete's face as he tells Alex how cool his friend is. He knows that Pete's probably got shiny eyes and a bright smile, along with giving him a bright thumbs up sign. "Sure I'll go! It sounds like fun, but if I don't get a guy for at least the night, you're going to be my booty call for the night."
"Yessir," Pete replies and Alex just knows how he's grinning now.
