Master Post Would You Trade That Heart of Gold For a Minute in My Skin?
Chapter 4, Lost In Stereo
------
The club has proved to be just a place now for Alex. Being with Rian had made it that he couldn't look at the boys or the girls there. Now he can actually take in the way that other people dance, the way that they move and communicate with one another. Now he can talk and dance with the people that he wants, the people he was forbidden from before.
It takes him a few weeks to finally get back into his groove, to finally get back into everything that he'd forgotten about the dating scene and how hard it is to get back into. All the people that he used to be friends with have moved on, the people that he used to see when he was with Rian still think he's unattainable.
He's gotten to know Zack a little more, the entire time wondering why and how the boy knows as many people as he does. Zack isn't the type of person who openly comes out to talk to people or communicate at all. He's much quieter, the type of person who seemed to be raised under the "only speak when spoken to" ideal. It doesn't mean that he's not a pretty cool person though.
Alex is sure that Pete is the reason that people know Zack, as he'd always managed to get around to everybody. Because he was Pete though, that meant that there were certain people who really didn't click with him. That's when they got to know Zack.
He goes to the club enough to know the regulars now, picking out people that he recognizes and what days they come. It's not that he goes there so often that he knows everybody, but there are just certain people who he can't forget. For example, there's a certain boy who comes every Saturday. He's always dancing, never talking to anybody.
Alex doesn't know how he does it, every time he tries to point him out to Zack, he's gone. Alex tries to describe him, but he doesn't know anything besides his hair colour. Alex tries, he goes up to the boy and tries to dance with him. Every time, he's pushed away, either by the boy leaving or refusing to answer anything that Alex asks; even a name.
He'd try to give up, but the guy just has him captivated in his spell. Alex can't even look at anybody else lately, as he has everything that Alex sees. He's becoming determined, convinced that he will find out who this boy is. He will meet him some day.
When the club runs out of people, the night turning into early morning, Alex decides to give up. He's been looking for a solid fifteen minutes before he gives up. He can't find the boy anywhere. He texts Zack to let him know he's leaving, just in case the younger boy is still here.
He gets a text back on the way home, "ur still there? i left like 2 hours ago." He gets home, quickly falling asleep on his bed, still fully clothed. When he wakes up in the morning, he has to remember if everything's been a dream.
He waits until the next Saturday, counting down the days until he can go to the club. His eyes instantly scan the place as he walks in the door, hoping and praying that he'll be able to find the boy. He spots him in the crowd, dancing alone once again. Alex goes over to him and tries again to get him to talk.
He ends up alone that night, without anything but a touch to the shoulder. He'd managed to stumble a bit and catch a whiff of his cologne, but nothing more. The next week is the very same thing, only this time he at least gets to find out his favourite song or band. He's not sure, only hearing the words "This is my favourite," before the song over powered the boy's speech.
"I'm losing hope," Alex says exasperatedly into the phone as he's talking with Zack, "He's just, like he's lost in the stereo, he's lost in the music. I don't know how to crack him."
"I think you need a new tactic," Zack says, "Maybe you should try to find another way of seeing him. I don't know, hang out by the door? Get there really early? Stay late? I don't know. It's obvious that he's not talking to you on the dance floor. You've gotta try something new."
"Yeah, yeah," Alex agrees, "I'll try it next week. I just want to know who this kid is. Anything, even a name is good enough for me."
