Would You Trade That Heart of Gold For a Minute in My Skin?
Chapter 5, A Party Song (The Walk Of Shame)

"Anything, even a name is good enough for me."

Alex is not going home without that name. He's made that vow to himself, along with Pete and Zack. His two friends are about ready to chop their ears off, simply so that they don't have to listen to Alex talk about him. He's become certain that he is going to figure it out, one way or another. The boy is already there when Alex shows up that night, discouraging his attempts before.

The three stay by the door the entire night, waiting until the boy leaves. They wait until one in the morning before he leaves, Zack and Pete splitting off from Alex as he waits outside. The boy comes out and walks down the steps, nodding to the bouncers. "See ya next week."

Alex waits on the edge of the sidewalk, looking at the boy as he walks by, "Hey, do you have a smoke?" He watches as the boy stops walking and looks at him.

He starts to pull out a box of cigarettes, "Yeah, do you need a light?"

Alex nods, gratefully taking the cigarette, "Yeah, if you've got a name, that'd be nice too." He asks with a shy grin. He'd never been good at being smooth.

He smiles at him, "I'm Jack. You're the kid who was always trying to find that out inside huh? I'll give you this, you're determined." Jack lights his own cigarette before handing the light to Alex. They smoke in silence for a minute, "What's your name?"

"Alex," he says. They talk for a while, mostly about nothing in particular. They talk until their cigarettes are down to stubs, at which point Jack offers for drinks. Jack knows the bartender well too, greeting him and giving him a drink without asking.

Alex isn't aware that when Jack offers somebody out for drinks, he's inviting them into his bed.

He doesn't hear back from Jack until the next week when he sees him at the club. Jack gives him a head nod and that's about it, nothing more. Pete slides up next to the younger boy, "So you never filled me in on what happened with him." Pete points at the boy, obviously knowing him through Zack.

Right, he'd told Zack, who of course, knew Jack. "Jack Barakat? If you had told me that, I could have set you two up like a month ago. He's so easy to get!" He'd been a little embarrassed after that, somehow forgetting to call Pete.

Alex begins to fill him in when Jack walks by, nodding at the doorway. "I promise I'll tell you later okay?" He leaves before Pete can even reply.

That night when Jack is asleep, he takes the phone from the night stand and sends himself a text message. He programs the number in his phone as 'Jack <3' because he's a complete sap for Jack and he knows it.

It becomes a routine for Alex, meeting Jack every week for sex that night. He doesn't have a problem with it, because at least he's learning new stuff about Jack every week. Jack remembers his name and that's good enough for him

Zack pulls him aside one night, asking Jack to hold on for just one minute. "Are you ready for a one night stand relationship? That's all you're getting from him."

Alex frowns at his friend, "Look, it's just complicated okay? It's not a 'one night stand relationship'. It's more than that."

"You like him so much," Zack replies, "He walks around with your heart on his sleeve," he says before he leaves Alex.

Alex doesn't have anything to say to him.
