Kurt takes a deep breath in as he enters the familiar choir room. Rachel and Mercedes about burst into song from joy (and Kurt's quite surprised that they don't actually sing). He smiles back as the rest of the club welcomes him back to McKinley and the only feeling he can really describe is a feeling of warmth and fuzzy. Despite the fact that he has to sort of watch his back, even though Sue Sylvester has promised that should Karofsky lay a hand on him, she'll make him regret walking into the school every morning, McKinley feels like home.
He doesn't remember seeing Lauren in the club before nor did he expect that she would stay after hearing her confession of "Glee club sucks" at Sectionals. At any other time, her constant glare would make him feel two inches tall, but he's currently basking in the glory of the familiarity of the room and the aura.
He sits between Rachel and Mercedes, both of them leaning against him like they're trying to keep him from leaving ever again. "Our assignment this week is to find a song that showcases our vocal talents. You should sing Take Me or Leave Me from Rent. It'll be perfect for your upper register."
Mercedes shifts against his other side, "We already sang that one though."
He feels Rachel stiffen in defiance, "That was different. That was because I was trying to show Ms. Sylvester that I am the best diva here," he can feel the slight tension rising between the two and he's sort of wary about being between the two, "Kurt would bring a different feel to the song though." She looks at Kurt with a smile, "I believe that it will convey your frustration with love and will showcase your vocal range perfectly."
Mercedes looks at him, "What are you thinking Kurt?"
He smiles at the two, "You had me at upper register."
Mr. Schuester comes into the choir room, smiling at the sight of Kurt, "Alright, do any of you guys have anything for your assignment this week?"
Kurt raises his hand with a sly smile as Mr. Schuester, "Mr. Shue, if I may." He walks up to that spot in the choir room that feels like home after Dalton's stiff nature. "By request and convincing," he smiles at his friends, "I have chosen to do a song that will showcase my upper octaves. Although it's been performed here before, this song can never be overdone."
He breaths in as Brad begins the song and his obsession with the movie version when it came out in 2005 proves him well as he can sing the song without even thinking about it. The familiar smile of a good performance spreads across his face as he lets go of the last note. He scans the New Directions' faces for their reactions.
Santana and Brittany are busy tugging at each other's skirts with lustful looks, Rachel and Mercedes are beaming, Quinn is filing her nails, and Puck looks oddly predatory. It takes Mr. Schuester a second after he finishes to clap and thanks Kurt as he sits down.
Kurt likes the way that the piano echoes in the choir room after everybody's left and the school hallways are empty. He likes pressing his finger down on the keys and listening to the strings vibrate against the walls and create the perfect pitch. The piano at home, a simple keyboard that Kurt forced his father to buy sounds nothing like this and Kurt nearly orgasms as the difference in quality.
"Hey Hummel," Kurt spins around from the piano, seeing Noah Puckerman standing in the doorway with his backpack on his shoulder and slightly sweaty from basketball practice.
Kurt has to wet his lips to speak, "Hey Puck. And to what do I owe the honor?"
Puck steps over to the piano, standing over Kurt and last year, the close proximity would have made Kurt nervous but this almost seems normal. "I'll take you."
Kurt's brow furrows and he has to check the doorway to see if there are any other basketball buffoons watching and laughing at the encounter. "Excuse me?"
Puck rolls his head in frustration, "I'll take you, like in the song." Kurt raises his eyebrow in question, "Dude, I haven't had any lip action in like two days. You're pretty hot and you've got those lady lips." Kurt can tell that he's complimenting him though it doesn't seem that way.
"I thought that you and Lauren were exclusive," Kurt asks.
Puck scoffs at him, "She can't contain the Puckasaurus. Now, we're going to make out, cool?"
Kurt would protest, but Puck starts kissing him and his experience shows clearly because Kurt's mind is completely wiped of all thoughts not containing Puck's lips.
