After looking around on the net, here’s my idea of what would make a good “teach yourself braille kit” for the sighted or semi-sighted folks who may not remain sighted:
I had found one that was a long-distance learning and it looked like it hadn't been updated in ages. It was also kind of confusing. This link that you gave is much better than the one I found.
You forgot "volunteer to transcribe print books into Braille." That will, or at least used to, get you a brailler (ever see a court stenographer's machine? Sorta like that, but with only seven keys) and practice writing with that.
Yup...that's a good one too. I wonder if volunteers have to be certificed though? I know some transcribers are. I don't know how one would go about that...but I guess that could be my next topic to look up.
