It is I, the great
mistercreepy/Reuben/that jerk.
I spent about two hours last night reading old "game" posts. Remember the game? I miss it. Do you miss it? Should we finish it? I also realized that I was a really big jerk 3-4 years ago. I plan on not being a jerk this time. Or I plan on planning on it.
Let's get a roll call on who else misses it.
If a fair number of people would like to resurrect some version of "the game," here are my three ideas (willing to accept others).
Idea 1: Wrap It Up Edition.
I find the old ballots, we run through them as quickly as possible, we come up with a fast and simple way to challenge movies to put them on the list and finalize it.
Idea 2: Finish "The Game" Edition.
We finish the 8 remaining challenges that I requested to start the game again. We continue like regular and possibly introduce a round to create a list of canonical films released in the time between 2007 and now/films that we've discovered that we would now consider canonical.
Idea 3: Create a New "Game" Edition.
Get those people who are still around, come up with a way to make a canon that doesn't have as many problems as the old "game" did. "The Game" originally started sort of randomly. I just came up with the rules as we went along, mostly, and I think it created some issues. Also, I think the polling drove interest, but the challenges were the meat of the exercise, and there wasn't enough of that going on. A game that focused on writing substantive pieces on our favorite films (or topics or filmmakers or actors) instead of on polling could be preferable (if more work).
So what does everyone (all 4 of you...) think? Do you still exist? Would you like to finish the game? Do you like one of these ideas, or do you have another proposal? Do you think I can be less of a jerk?
I think yes.
