The recent series of tremors at Yellowstone have raised a lot of fun talk. For anyone who doesn't know, the quakes that have hit don't indicate to vulcanologists any trend towards a gigantic humanity-annihilating eruption. For one thing, they've all been too localized in the Yellowstone Lake region. For another, they've been too small. Also, ( Read more... )

By the way, I recommend "World War Z" to anyone here who enjoys the Zombie Apocalypse.

My plan for disaster involves compadres and a sneak attack on the downtown Minneapolis National Guard Armory building. This is why I have my little guns. To ratchet up to the bigger ones.

You could totally like start this whole book industry. All there is now is, "How to stock food" or "how to sew a button" or "how to sew a fire". This is all irrelevent for true survivalism. How about, "How to rule your fief with an iron fist," or something useful you know?

I've had the conversation regarding plans for a zombie apocalypse far more often than I have had any about nature induced cataclysms. I found it amusing that pretty much everyone at the first martial arts school I attended already had their zombie plans in prepared.

I've already started preparing a disaster-preparedness kit. At this point, it exists entirely in my head, as I'm still mulling over the details of what things are absolutely critical ( ... )

There are a lot of really solid reasons why going alone into the wilderness is suicidal. Granted, you may still be better off than dealing with bandits and warlords of the scavenger economy. But even in the best of times going it alone in the wild is very dangerous and even having just one person with you can save your life in countless situations. I have a natural tendency to include others, so I would never make that kind of plan, but that's just a matter of personal preference. Basically, I don't want to convince you of anything except to be sure you know of and are prepared for all the problems you might encounter by being alone ( ... )

Yeah. Certainly a bike helps bridge the gap between the drivable and the walkable areas.
