When asked to comment on the destruction of the unfinished hotel, the architect commented that it was a shame this happened before the building could open to the public. My dad was an architect until he lost his job last year. (Economy win!) Now he works for a masonry company. When we went to Elkader for grandma's funeral, we were going to stop at a german restaurant on the way for lunch. Thing is, it burnt down just that morning and was still smouldering. So of course Dad has to take pictures of how the masonry survived the fire, because that's one of its selling points.
