It might be a combination of the month's waiting time + the writing? I've noticed this with other monthly series as well--a slew of chapters that might read okay once they're collected into a volume, but if you're reading month-by-month the suspense and tension have to be enough to sustain you, or else it feels a little lackluster. Something really good plot-wise that is enough to blow my mind will have to happen and real soon, or I may not be able to stay hooked, I'm sad to say. I get bored when I can guess what's coming up in a story. (My worst experience was with the book, Da Vinci Code. People went nuts over that book, so I tried... only to find that I guessed 80% of the plot. Now that's being too predictable.)
