Just wondering...

if other Kuro fan artists are suffering the same thing as me -- sort of ... the lack of motivation.  I'm frankly not the type to go ga-ga over dozens and dozens of icons made from colored manga pages or anime screen shots.  I seem to be seeing a flood of these posts lately and nothing much in terms of original fanart.  Heck, I can't really say the ( Read more... )

Yeah, this is probably why the fandom was so smallish before the anime started, and why it'll probably slow down and shrink again after a while. It's much harder for a monthly series to generate lots of substantial fan activity--not that it never happens, but it seems to require some magical combo of good storytelling and enthusiastic and prolific fans and various other things. (Which is why I prefer to be in multiple fandoms at once, myself.)

I agree on the fanart, though--it's always such a pleasant surprise to find an artist who's flexible enough to play around with their own styles and ideas, while capturing enough of the characters that your brain still recognizes them instantly. :D

The series started with good, quality chapters, but it's definitely slowing down, which usually indicates a downfall from here if history is any indication. I mean, 40 pages is a lot of space to have some good storytelling done, don't you agree? I just couldn't believe she wasted all that with shootings and explosions and called it a chapter... (It kind of reminded me of what happened to InuYasha... what a bummer.)

I've been looking, but nothing catches my attention for something new to watch or read. I'm not even able to commit myself to a full rendering of a 'doodle' lately. lol All I've done are quickie sketches that I can pump out in 10 min. a piece. XDD

Mmm, while sometimes have to be action-heavy chapters are necessary, when there's that little plot advancement in a chapter I start to get a little concerned that the mangaka is in a "stomping on the brakes because I don't know what to do/don't want to write what comes next" crisis. Quite a few of my dearly beloved series have fallen down that slope.

Yes, when one goes looking for a new series it rarely seems to work, does it? You just have to wait for them to blindside you at very inconvenient times. XD I do hope something interesting comes your way soon, though; being in a creative slump is terrible.

the mangaka is in a "stomping on the brakes because I don't know what to do/don't want to write what comes next" crisis. That was exactly my thought. And I bet that's most likely what it is. XD

I have original characters and other things to draw, so it's not so much a slump for me, but I felt bored looking at posts after posts that only offered icons...over at the phantomhive comm.

I did think chapter 33 was pretty cool! But that's because I love the servant characters a whole lot... Finny is actually my favorite character in the series, and Bard is probably my fourth. :D With all the attention that Ciel and Sebastian always get, I really enjoyed seeing the secondary characters in action.

I do, however, think that there could have been more storytelling thrown into that chapter as well. She didn't really have to kill the entire circus cast off in one chapter, leaving a couple of them hanging for a while would have worked much better.

...and I couldn't agree with you more about the originality of the fandom ): I'm sick of icon posts. I'm working on a drawing myself, it's going to be a parody of the "extra" covers on the inside of the books... you know how she always draws them in the same pose as the cover, but in a sillier outfit? It's one of those, but I won't spoil the surprise yet. XD
