i will be leaving for New Jersey by Friday, May 19th, as i have to be there by Sunday, May 21st. i will be there until ~August 1st. i'm doing a research project at Rutgers on the paleoventilation of the South Pacific, which means i'm sorting foraminifera shells from cores [read: mud]. It's way more exciting than you think/i'm making it sound

You're not actually going to be there when they take the cores, are you? Cuz that'd be super rad. Probs not cuz you're in Jersey and the South Pacific is..well..in the South Pacific. But still.

Nope, no New Zealand sailing-frolic-of awesomeness for me, they already have the mud. They actually got the cores just last month, which was insanity as my advisor was totally unavailable during the time i was supposed to be deciding what project to do. But the idea is that if i do a good job/like the research end, maybe i'll get to go collecting later. i do get to go on one of the ships, but only for a few day cruises/surface sampling bits.
