Is a house ever finished? I think I'm getting there. This is the putting-stuff-on-the-walls stage (not quite at the paintings yet, but shelves and things). After a week of living in a storage unit, there are now cupboards and shelves up and it might actually be a house after all. I got my computer corner set up, the big bookcase is ready for stuff going in, the Wall Of Boxes is beginning to erode as places appear for stuff to go into. Jelmer and Tamara came over yesterday to help me wallpaper. We didn't get as far as I'd hoped, but at least now I know how it works! Mum helped me finish the last few strokes in the living room today, so the living is all the way done and ready for Stuff. She also put together the kitchen counter while I packed, so the dining room is taking shape. ( Read more... )

Dad put the cute checkerboard vinyl in the kitchen. Looks really cool. The big IKEA order came in - they mostly got it right. Wrong size planks for the IVAR bookcase, and wrong size PAX closet. Big disappointment today - not enough laminate to finish the floor. There was one pack that was largely the wrong colour, though we probably would have needed another pack anyway. Living room is all done, but the hall and kitchen are still bare. Had planned to put vinyl in the kitchen anyway, but they won't have more of this laminate until end of ( Read more... )

Two uncles came to help today. I got the painting done! (at least the walls, there's still a door and a load of furniture to paint, when it arrives) The second colour blue was supposed to be significantly lighter than the one I did yesterday - unfortunately it's a lot closer than it seemed on the test cards.
