Broken blood vesssels and purging! interesting new discovery.

Dec 17, 2007 02:10

I know that raised blood pressure whilst purging can break blood vessels in the eye.  It happens to lots of us, but I've just discovered someting else.

A few days ago I gave myself a large black eye.  OK - so nothing to be alarmed about - I hit my face on the handle of a metal trolley thing, but it was a bad bruise.
Purging made it much worse and ( Read more... )

Eep.
That's a mighty alarming shiner you got there.
It calls for ice and...more ice.

On another semi-unrelated note, you have beautiful eyes.
I can has dem plz?

I, being the ever-studious student, am leaving this comment rather than studying for finals.
Eh. If I got away with it in my 9th grade year, I can get away with it now.

Thank you, luv - and good luck with your exams!
You'll be fine!
Only intelligent people have EDs.

Think about it - it would be so easy to go through life being stupid. - We're disordered because we know things, understand about things, and how they affect our lives and therefore we worry about them. That equals stress and a certain amount of over-anxiety and perfectionism. If we were dumb, we wouldn't care and just breeze around like grinning idiots.

(Oh - yeah - says she who's just walloped her own face on a shopping-cart! - LOL)

xxx (Good luck again)

Strange, yeah - but I don't get ill at all. I haven't even had a cold for 4 or 5 years and I' around people all the time. Kids/adults everyone. I commute on public transport most days.

I thin maybe my body is too weak to produce adequate immune responses??? - I really don't now, but after all the symptoms of illnesses like colds are your own body's response at getting rid of the germs - running nose, fever and stuff. But I don't get viral infections like sore throats either - so I don't understand! - but I feel quite well, physically and mentally, even if I AM quite tired and don't have much physical strength or stamina obviously.

I DO take a hefty multivit and essential-fatty-acid capsules.

Sorry about the random jumping in, but I saw this on purgatorium and needed to tell you thanks. I came on here a bit ago freaking out because I've never had that happen before--and logically (and chronologically) I knew what caused it, but I needed somebody else to tell me that this random blood vessel bursting around my eye sockets was normal (well, normal's not exactly the right word).

It doesn't appear to be going away quite quickly enough for my tastes (I almost wish I had a black eye to start with so it wouldn't be as much of an abnormality on my face), but at least now I know that it happens in various incarnations to other people too.

And as to the rest of your post: it always gives me a sort of vicarious happiness when people talk about moving towards recovery and feeling better. I was never on Prozac, but I had the same problem with many of the other SSRIs not working, so I know what that's like. I don't know you at all, and you'll probably think this entire comment is weird, but know that I really mean it when I wish you good luck

Heya! Thanks for your words. Nice to hear from you and best of luck to you as well. Maybe we'll talk more sometime - if you like.

Yes - it DID start out after a normal black-eye bruise when I bashed myself on a shopping-trolley - but purging definitely broke more vessels - (I guess they were damaged already and the strain just worsened things).

But also - I have permanent dark circles under my eyes that just make me look like haven't had enough sleep. I think purging causes those, too somehow.

Maybe keep trying different SSRI's. It's a long, slow process because of the long kick-in times and slow weening off periods, but I went through 5-6 before finding the best one for me. ALso - I've found that alcohol is an ABSOLUTE no-no with them. They REALLY don't work if you're drinking.

Take care of yourself and thanks again.

Thanks - yay, the shiner's gone now - I look back to normal, thank goodness.
Your idea is really good and I promise to make a very special effort to use it.
Hope you are OK and keeping happy! Plans for Christmas??
Have a nice holiday, anyway, sweetheart!
