I think a lot of people are going that route now. I was super lucky - only 5 people in the entire place when I went there. I've already told mom to do it. The last election she waited almost 3 hours.
I'm not sure how well your mom can get around, but at the early voting place I went to, anyone who was disabled could drive up to the door, a poll worker came out and they could vote in their car with a paper ballot. I thought it was very helpful.
I don't know a single person who hasn't voted early. Maybe if every person votes early, I'll be the only one there on Election Day :). Fat lot of good it does in my redneck state ...
We are waiting for the actual day, only because we love our polling place. It's almost as good as the last place: a tiny feed barn on a local ranch. The same lady greeted us for 10 years, always by name and ready to swap gossip.
I used to live in a part of town with the same thing. Polling booth was the First Baptist Church on Isle of Hope, and the same people always worked the polls and got to know you. I'm know in a part of the county where thousands of people like to show up on Election Day and I don't know any of them. It was so easy with the early voting, I think I'll continue doing it from here on out.

I have never voted early until this year, but I actually feel a lot less stressed about the whole thing now.
