The worst part about school? School holidays...which OF COURSE do not match up with academic holidays. When Gwen was at nursery, nursery was open every day that the university was open, with the exception of the first May bank holiday (I never understood why, of the two May bank holidays, academic staff, including nursery staff, got both of them ( Read more... )

ugh! yes! I remember "scrambling" too when D was in kindergarten! Here they do have day "camps" but they fill up so quickly! We got the hang of it and that little hurdle is so easily forgotten - only remembered because of your post! :)

I know! Until they were 5, my children went to the university day care which is open all year except for two weeks over Christmas. Then suddenly I had to deal with weeks and weeks of school holiday while I had to work. The school they are at runs a holiday club part of the time, but never over the short holidays (there are two week-long holidays). My girls have become used to spending hours in my office. Fortunately the bottomless bandwidth at work (unlike at home) is a treat.

It's a real pain, though.

I figure in another few years, Gwen will be able to entertain herself at home while Joel works -- but for now, she hasn't mastered the art of "daddy/mommy's working, you need to not talk to him/her." Soon. Someday....
