Which era of Nightwish was playimg? Haggard is a very fun German band - 'Medieval folk metal' is how they describe themselves. They do a lovely rendition of Herr Mannelig, and my personal favourite album is Eppur Si Muove - based on the life and works of Galileo.

ALL the Nightwish.

I'm lucky that since I only came to them in July, I missed all the drama about changing singers. Because youtube will feed you songs indiscriminately, I had unknowingly been exposed to their entire repertoire before I even found out there were different singers, or started sorting songs into who sung what. So I'm an indiscriminate lover of them. :)

Thanks for the Haggard rec! I'll see what I can find of them on youtube.

The only true Nightwish is the one with Diamond Dave as lead singer.

I love the glimpses you share of your academic life.

I love to share them, but I'm never quite sure how appropriate it is, so I have to be chary with them. Someday, though, I'll write a memoir, and one chapter in it will be "all the flirting that goes on in logic seminar, and all the terrible logic pick-up lines my students inflicted upon me and each other." It will be the best chapter in the memoir. :)

I look forward to that one, and think you should include here an occasional highlight of what will go there.

I look forward to your posts and have missed them. The perspective on British academic life with a child in their education system is enlightening:-]

I've missed posting them! But November and finishing up the novel really sucked a lot of words out of me, and then we hit December and January, which I've learned over the years (and most especially last year) are nothing other than hibernating months. I get up, I get Gwen to where she needs to be, I go to the office for my eight hours and do my teaching and admin, and then I get Gwen, return home and...turn off. Oh, I may not go to sleep for a few hours, but nothing substantive gets done in the evenings during the darkest months.
