Только что отвечала на вопросы про мои впечатления об обучение в
University of the arts London.
Name of Course (date graduated):
MA Visual Arts / Illustration (July 2009)
Country of origin:
Russia
Why did you choose to study at UAL?
UK was the only country I found which offered MA in Illustration and UAL seemed like the most accessible institution with good reputation.
What did you do on the course and what did you enjoy most?
I worked on a self-initiated project (studying and illustrating Modern Myths). I enjoyed the atmosphere on the course and getting to know my fellow students which came to London from all over the world.
Tell us about your teachers and other students on your course
Our course leader was professor Janet Wooley. She is an illustrator currently employed in the industry and experienced in teaching. However one shouldn't expect much teaching on an MA course. Students came from different countries and various backgrounds: design, fine art, literature, philosophy, book arts. Most students were working before they decided to do an MA, but there were a few who came straight after their BA.
What was life as a student like?
It was great to be a student and to devote all the time to my project. Library and learning resources were a great help as well as the opportunity to use other facilities like print studios, computer labs etc.
What was it like living in London?
The most enjoyable experience. London is incredibly good for one pursuing a career in arts - it gives all sorts of inspiration!
What advice would you give to students thinking of studying at UAL?
• Make a research before going. The education system in the UK might be very different from what you are used to and the whole experience might not meet your expectations.
• Also learn English WELL! It's crucial to understand what is going on and to get maximum of this experience.
• Be open to everything new - new friends, new traditions, new horizons, new projects etc!
How would you sum up your overall experience in three words?
Exciting. Challenging. Enjoyable.
What would you say is the main difference between studying Art & Design in London and Russia?
In Moscow we used to go to the University every day, five days a week. We had a schedule to follow and homework to do. Here students are more free to choose what they want to study and how. But when you come here from different educational system it might be very easy to do nothing and waste your time because nobody is checking on you. So it requires a lot more self-discipline and taking your own responsibility.
What do you consider was your greatest challenge during your studies?
The greatest challenge was to get used to the education system here and to fit all my ambitions in a one year MA course.
