Some of the people I asked to perform for my kids' party didn't want written contracts -  feeling a verbal was fine with them.  The problem I have is that I wonder then if they feel as "committed" and if something else comes along if they will cancel on me since there is no contract ( Read more... )

I'm a stickler usually for written contracts. It protects both the client and the performer, and its also nice for personal files.

I've heard people's reasonings for not wanting written contracts, and it just doesn't hold water with me.

I wish you the best of luck with the other performers.

-Much love,

Once again, for not being as "seasoned" as lots of people I know you have a great head on your shoulders!! As I said, I'm sure everything will work out in the end, it's just the driving myself nuts now, at the moment, with all the wishy washy, lack of being able to commit stuff.

Wouldn't a contract cover all asses in case somebody had to bail for some unknown reason, and keeps business with business?

Yes, it would... However since I am friendly with them and they feel funny to take pay, they also feel funny having a written contract.

I understand both sides, I just don't want to feel like I got the short end of the stick if they felt they were doing a friend a favor and in the meantime got another offer (which they took) :(.

Pay them a dollar each if money is an issue.. but the contract is mostly to say "I'm going to show up on this date for this amount of time.." and if there was a consequence for not showing, it would have been listed there, A handshake is usually all it needs to take for these things,, but then again.. why do people need prenuptial agreements if everything is going to go well? Cause stuff happens sometimes.. its a formality only. if your friends played any other gig.. a contract is very good to have. When Mark played PT, it was all verbal and at will, the venue would change the lineup and the band got squeezed. Thats all I can think about that.
