I have to admit that at the daycare we are suppose to teach the children the proper words for everything, including body parts. This makes some of the teachers uncomfortable because it's not common to hear a three year old saying penis or vagina. It also isn't common to hear a two year old cussing out his teacher as a mother f-ing whore either. I fully agree that parents need to take some responsibility in raising their children, they aren't status symbols and they shouldn't be mistakes either!

If I had said that to any of my teachers I would have had to run away from home for fear of my parents ever finding out. It amazed me to watch people (like my aunt) simply refuse to either teach or discipline their children. I always feel like a dick when I say anything about parenting, since I don't actually have children, but damned if I couldn't do a better job than many others.

Kids don't need any help in learning naughty words, and I at least would much rather they use them PROPERLY rather than sounding like the poor kids have tourettes or something.
Hey, I have a nutty idea, why don't we cenor the bible while we're at it too.

I don't think Nessie and I can be friends anymore.

Don't be ridiculous, Nessie and I have had far worse disagreements and we're still friends. You don't stop being friends with someone because you have different principles, you stop being friends with someone because they fucked your sister, or drove a car into the wall of your work.

See, as for me I don't give a damn, the parents and school can do whatever they want and it's not going to change the fact that those kids are still going to find "dirty" words to snicker at all over.

Is the whole thing ridiculous? Hell yes. Is it news? No.

This is why I never fucked your sister. That wall thing is tempting, though.

This is ridiculous. Children are mimics they're going to curse and use "bad" words if that's what they've been exposed to from influential people in their lives. If a child is old enough to pick up a dictionary and look up word then, then they're old enough to be told by their parents what is and is not appropriate AND WHY. Plus, if the kids looking up "bad" words it means he's probably learned the word elsewhere and doesn't know exactly what it means, and needs/wants to know. I tend to think banning books is an easy route for parents to avoid "hard" discussions. A lot of parents wish they didn't have to talk to their kids about sexuality, race, or behavior. Banning is just a naive hope that they can postpone the discussion, leaving children ignorant through crucial developing years ( ... )

When I was in fifth grade a boy in my class and I were sent to the hallway - and were sitting next to the dictionary cart. He took a red pencil out of his pocket and added the word "Boob" to the Children's Dictonaries. I can never remember his name...
