Facebook, again.

Okay, I just saw a law school student post that weird little FB copyright thing and now I'm confused. I mean, it's total nonsense, right? You kinda already gave FB the permission to use (not own, use) your content when you agreed to its terms of service? And a status update isn't a legally binding document that will overrule your agreement to those ( Read more... )

the internet is a wondrous place

Aha!

Yeah, they're a load of bollocks. I think if you're not happy with facebook, it's a bit of a 'my way of the highway' type of situation - though I'm sure if you were to delete your account, the content would still be there. It gets on my nerves a bit that people are so wound up about facebook doing things like this but none of them bother to leave the thing! Grumble grumble grumble...

Yes, I think it doesn't get completely deleted, because you've probably interacted with friends who shared your content or posted something about you, and their accounts are still active. But still, as long as your on FB, you give it the permission to use your stuff, and if you want to change that, you need to do more than copy & paste a status update. (I can't help but think it's rather sad that that's considered a kind of activism these days ... reminds me of that silly breast cancer awareness meme that was going around a few years ago.)
