Today's a shitty day.

I got a super unfriendly mail from a lady whose unpublished manuscript I had used in my BA thesis. I had asked for her permission and sent her the document twice, she even answered correcting a few things without saying a word that she didn't want me using it. *hugs back* Thank you! It did help, and sorry for the late answer. Both things got cleared up eventually, for better or worse, but boy was it a shitty, shitty day.

Gaps in tragedy are horrible

Fill them up, and forget. The two people weren't right for your circuit right now and you're still reaching out, still doing right things, good things.

You'll get your reward if you're patient and don't over think or change the positive patterns in those paragraphs.

I feel it's very true what you wrote here, and at least in the second situation I actually came away with a very positive experience - I tried something, it didn't work out, but I communicated clearly what I wanted, something I always had a hard time with, so I feel it shows a very positive development. Thanks for that lovely comment. :)

*hugs* Sorry to hear this ...

But that first person? Totally a jerk. I'm really sorry that academia has this kind of people :( (Seriously: the rule is - be nice to students, they struggle a lot anyway. And be extremely clear from the beginning of you don't want something to be used/cited. As in: *extremely* clear.)

Yeah, it was totally weird. The situation got cleared up eventually (apparently it was a "big misunderstanding"), but I wish she'd just asked calmly what had happened instead of writing me a nasty email. Oh well.
