If there were a gun or knife wielding maniac on the premises, I would physically block my family, friends and even complete strangers with my body to protect them. I would always keep myself between the danger and the people. But when there's a spider (even a harmless little Daddy Long-Legs) I will grab the nearest person and use them as human ( Read more... )

No, there's nothing wrong with it. But I would like to know where it came from.

See, I have this annoying little need to understand things. Spiders affect me in a pretty major way, and I want to know why.

Freud says people who fear spiders have issues with their mother, but he also says all women wish they had penises, so so much for Freud. (I love how this icon goes so nicely with this part of the post, and I amuse myself far too much.)

I wonder if Jung has anything to say on the subject, cos I actually respect Jung's work.

i'm not quite sure where mine came from but i know what influenced it: a cruel cousin and his pet tarrantulas (sp?). *shivers* i HATE spiders. it may be a traumatic past life experience, like death by spiders.

Well that would explain yours, cos childhood teasing, even in small amounts, can have a large effect. But I had so such thing happen to me. I just saw a spider one day and went "Eeek!"

It was a few months after watching Arachnophobia, but can watching a movie make you scared of spiders? I doubt that's it, cos I am a horror movie geek, and if I was that suggestible I would be scared of a shit-load of things.
