I am the man who stopped attending church, not because I don't believe, but because they closed their doors to my kind. this reminds me of my favorite quote from Angels in American:
Harper Pitt: It's terrible. Mormons are not supposed to be addicted to anything. I'm a Mormon.
Prior Walter: I'm a homosexual.
Harper Pitt: Oh. In my church, we don't believe in homosexuals.
Prior Walter: In my church, we don't believe in Mormons.

we don't believe in what we fear and don't understand and that's really sad. i would really like to take my baka bat to the world except that the world has no sense to beat out of it.

Heh, I love that quote.

Mom and dad always wonder why I never want to go to their church. They know about the prejudice, but for them it's an abstract idea. I've tried to explain that it's very tangible to me and they always ask for a specific incident.

They don't seem to get that years and years of minute looks and small callous comments are worse than one or two overt instances of hate. There does come that moment when that final tiny piece of straw will become too much, and the camel's back will break.

My back broke years ago, too long ago to be repairable now.

overt instances of hate are over-rated. i agree with u. its the small things like the covert glances and snide commentary that drive ppl away more than the "i shall save ur soul!" bible-touters. and many of these ppl call themselves christians.
heh, what part of "love ur neighbor as ur self" do they not understand?
