I have a lot of spare time on my hands this week

Well technically I have a research paper to write and a ton of reading to do. But that doesn't always seem like the best way to utilize all this time. To avoid these tasks, I have to make my own distractions, which can be very hard work.

I have persevered though. This thing has come up plenty since I started library school, and a giant snark is long past due.

Cute. And friendly. But not as cute and friendly as when you both integrate a helpful little information person into your logo and turn (well, half-turn) them into literally an open book:

The iSchools people seem to make everyone who's part of their thing use that logo, but they do allow it to be modified with school colors. There are other examples, but you get the idea.

They're not the only ones to have stumbled upon such stunningly innovative symbolism, though:

I guess for this one I shouldn't make fun because this logo has something to do with uniting organizations that work towards international information literacy. A lot has been blogged and written about it. As far as I can tell, it's like a gang sign for groups that teach people how to use the internet and stuff.

I totally am allowed to make fun of this though:

I didn't know Ms could be people too. Is there also supposed to be a subconsciously-transmitted "i" in there too? Indicating that these Mentors will impart important information to you?

And lest you assume that by now people have finally realized that this whole thing is totally obnoxious and way overdone, the Monterey Institute of International Studies (whatever that is) has a blog that is determined to prove you wrong:

Gosh it felt good to get that out of my system :)
