Summary: Kendrix decides to do something nice for Bridge

Details: Part of the tftimelost universe that I share with Megthelegend

Disclaimer: Not mine, never mine.

Author's Notes: For Meg. I hope that this helps you feel even more better.

Bridge and Kendrix weren’t close friends. Kendrix often stayed with the other scientists while Bridge was a cadet and part of B squad. She did know him better than the rest of his teammates since Bridge worked with Kat and Boom every so often, but it wasn’t the same as having her own friends nearby. She didn’t mind talking to him in the hallway, as long as that could be, but he wasn’t someone that she spent a lot of time with. Yet, none of her other friends were in the past with her and she had found that while she was quick to adapt, she still missed her friends and family. She glanced at the small teddy bear that Leo had given her before she left, that Mike had stitched a little jacket for, and Damon had made little dog-tags for and realized that she missed them more than she realized. But just as she hid her feelings, she knew that Bridge had to feel out of place as well no matter how well he hid it.

The other usually kept his emotions hidden when he felt this way just as she did. She realized that he’d had to leave his own family, his squad, behind when he came back yet didn’t want to bring it up. Which was why she’d counted the extra money they’d been given for personal items and had headed out to the store when the others were busy. She looked through all of the different items until she got to the row she was looking for. She looked through them carefully and found the perfect item. She’d bought the item soon after and brought it back to the house, carefully wrapping it before Bridge saw it. She’d finished putting the bow on it when Bridge came it.

“Bridge,” she called out. “Do you have a minute?”

“Sure, Kendrix!” He said, but before he could continue, she quickly put the gift in his arms.

“Happy House-Warming,” she said happily. She watched as he took the present, thrilled that he seemed happy and excited over it.

“Thanks, Kendrix! Can I open it now?” He asked and she nodded. She watched anxiously as he took the present and less that carefully opened it. He pulled it out and his eyes widened.

“Do you like it?” She asked and he nearly tackled her in a hug.

“You got me a toaster! A green toaster! We can make toast! Buttery toast!” Bridge said. “We still need the bread and white bread is the best with butter, but wheat is okay too and I like sourdough, but not raisin bread because it affects the buttery part. And there are so many different kinds here. We should go to the store…”

“Bridge,” Kendrix gently cut him off. She reached behind her and pulled out a loaf of white bread and a package of butter. “I though we could test it once you opened it.”

Bridge was grinning. “No one has ever bought me a toaster before,” he told her. “Thank you.”

Kendrix smiled back. She still missed her family and she was sure that Bridge still missed his team, but at that moment, when they were opening the bag and putting the bread in, she felt a little more at home.
