Haha, yes this is a late comment but I know what you mean about the music-thing.
I'll have days where I don't listen to music, usually because I'm preoccupied with something else; then when I finally turn it on I am so grateful for music, and that the cavemen had decided that ululating was a good idea. Or something like that, whatever it always goes back to the Caveman.

I think it's alright to feel more passion in your writings, as long as you discover it sooner than being led by the nose with art because you want it to be your choice. I'm sure your father would be proud of you, I never realized that your problem of letting go of art could be the fact that it was the best way for you to relate to your father, or hold on to a trade that he worked with.
But, either way you will make a fine writer, and they're still considered artists in my book so don't feel too disappointed in your choice/revelation/epiphany(?) Haha.
