Interesting...Though to picture the shifter. Only 2 gears? I don't think there is any dirt track racing within a few hundred miles of here. It's all about autoX around here. I still gota post about my dream race car.
There's two shift levers... one for forward and one for reverse. Pushing the "forward" gear shift forward (foot off the clutch) puts it into low. Then, start to give it some gas and press down slowly on the clutch and it will start to engage. (Clutch works opposite of a street car.)
Once you're rolling and have your clutch pedal all the way to the ground, let off the cluch and gas, grab the shifter and pull it back into high gear. It "locks" into high gear from there, and you're ready to race.
Reverse works about the same as Forward, except I don't think you want to try putting it into High...
Wow.... so.. you could go backwards... really fast! ;)
I used to live next to a guy who had a bunch (3 to 6) of old British race cars. A lot of them were the kind where the fiberglass body was removeable, etc. I actually saw him once on Speedvision at some vintage race event.
He moved down south, I think, this year. Sold his house with 6 - 8 car garage.
I think you could have had some fun in some of his cars - MG's stand out in my mind, but I think there were others.
