Person of Interest just introduced the best kick-ass female character ever. Damnit, I think I'm in love! I had no idea that this show needed another character, but I'm all for it now. Bring it on! I can't wait to see more of her! ( Some Spoilers... )

Yes! The episode was co-written by the show's creator, Jonathan Nolan who also wrote the short story "Memento Mori" which was made into the movie Memento. The guy is IMO the king of the twist and turn ;-) His brother is Christopher "Inception" Nolan. I'm a fan of all their works :-)

I'm always surprised when people start saying it's a J.J. Abrams series, because it really isn't. He's an executive producer and not the creator and manages to do what in my humble opinion Abrams doesn't: i.e. write a good TV show. I think the movies Abrams directed are by far better than his TV shows (haven't seen Alias though). Sure they're watchable, but from an excellent premise they just start drifting farther and farther away until it seems like a completely different show and you just keep on watching out of misplaced loyalty or a wish to know how it ends.

Nolan on the other hand is a writer. I mean look at Memento and The Prestige (that twist was amazing!) and the Dark Knight (not such a big fan of Dark Knight Rises, but it's still good and twisty). And I think that's what makes the difference really.

Yes, exactly and you've described how I pretty much experienced Alias - starts off great and then the story morphed into something else, not for the better IMO (and yes, I did stay with it just to see how it would eventually end).

You're also right about Sam - she's an amazingly complicated character. It's funny though as I last saw the actress, Sarah Shahi, in another TV show called "Fairly Legal" - such a different role! As Kate Reed, she was so bubbly and people-oriented, it's such a stark contrast to her new character. But she really makes both of them work as believable people.
