In short: I liked it. So far the Mark Gatiss eps weren't necessarily the best of the lot, but by a far margin definitely not the worst of the lot either. I think this ep was quite good. It wasn't whooping along good, but it was interesting, had good character development, some nice one-liners and a very cool setting.
My favourite part was when The Doctor, Clara and the scientist found one of the crew ripped apart. I turned to my boyfriend and said:" I'd wish they'd show a reasonable reaction to that," and just when I turned back there was Clara, frozen. She actually had a nice bit of dialogue later on, where she basically said that it had been a game for her, but now it was real. I really, really liked it.
Not only because it's nice character development, but also because it's what I like in the best of Doctor Who: it might seem like a somewhat cheesy children's show, but when it gets it right, the emotions are real. Lately it has been more fun (and some boring bits), but maybe we'll get a bit more "real" into it again? Let's hope.
