Whoa, I'm glad he seems to be doing okay, hope he gets off the canula and home asap! I have a friend who had her baby at 34 weeks last month-- he was well over 5 lbs. though, and went home after a couple days. I hope breastfeeding is going well, I know how the NICU pushes formula on new moms. One of my best friends works in Suburban's NICU, which hospital is he at?

He's at Norton Suburban, and they are very very pro breastmilk. He was pretty much off formula after 2 days (when I was close to functioning again) Breastfeeding has not gone as well, with him being super tiny and me having huge boobs, but we keep trying. He roots well but his suck/swallow/breathe reflex is a little lacking.

I'm glad to hear that you are having a good experience there! My dear friend Christy Ramos works there, you might meet her-- she only works one day a week though. My friend Jackie who recently had her baby there at 34 weeks had a hell of a time keeping them from giving him any formula, even though her son was so big and healthy for gestational age. She had a pretty awful neonatologist, he also told her she HAD to wean her older daughter, who just turned 1 (of course she didn't, and both kids are thriving).
Let me know if there's anything I can do to help, I don't have much experience working with preemies but once he gets a little bigger, if you're still having latch problems, I'd be happy to work with you if you want. Also I highly recommend the Highlands LLL group, and there are some preemie moms there the last time I checked (which, granted, was over a year ago).

He makes some of the best "F You!" faces I've ever seen on a baby, especially when he gets burped.
