Notes: This is my second Christmas gift-fic for cross_chord.  It's a little late >_>

Maria stepped back from her suitcase with a sigh. Normally, she was excited at the prospect of going home for the holidays. It was different this time though. This time, she was bringing Reborn back with her. She wouldn’t be fretting about it if it were for the implications. That this was serious, this thing between them.

With a sigh, she closed her suitcase. Maybe it was serious. But it was still hard to believe that Reborn - handsome and deadly, a womanizer and a fighter - could see her as someone to be with for longer than a few hours. He still hadn’t given her any assurance that this was it for him, but he wasn’t seeing anyone else as far as she knew. And she was sure that Superbi would have told her by now.

When there was a knock on the door, she started, pulled out of her thoughts. She grabbed her suitcase and, with a final sigh, she went to answer the door. She wasn’t surprised to see Reborn there, since he was picking her up, but she was surprised that he wasn’t wearing his usual suit. It was rare to see him without it, except when they were in bed together. Now, he was wearing tight jeans and a sweater which was a good look on him.

“Uh…you changed,” was all she said. It wasn’t the brightest thing to say, but she could be forgiven because of the shock.

“Well, I thought that it might be nice to meet your family in something more…informal. I think they’d be thrown off by a man in a suit and a fedora,” he replied, smiling. “Besides, I know how much you enjoy seeing me…out of uniform.”

“Yeah, I guess I do.” She blinked when he stepped inside her apartment instead of leading her out.

“Maria, I need to talk to you about something.” And her heart stopped. This was it, she knew it. He was finally going to tell her that he didn’t want her anymore.

“Sure, let me put this down.” She put her suitcase down, doing her best not to wring her hands. Then she headed for the kitchen. “Would you like some coffee?”

“Yes, please.” He followed her as she went in to start the coffeemaker. She jumped when she felt arms around her. She could almost see his raised eyebrow in his tone of voice. “Are you alright?”

“Fine.” It took everything she had when she turned not to pull away from him. “What do you need to talk about?”

“Well, this. Going to your family’s for Christmas.” His arms encircled her and a hand ran up along her back. “I know this is a big deal, so I wanted to make sure I knew what was okay.”

“That’s all?” It was odd, this feeling of relief that was filling her. “I think just about everything is okay. I mean, Superbi goes and they’re fine with everything he does.” Her lips twitched when he chuckled and shivered when he pressed a kiss to her neck.

“So they would be fine if I took you to your childhood bedroom and did rather naughty things to you~?” She flushed at that, her hands tracing along his arms.

“I…don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“I think it’s a wonderful idea~.” He lifted her easily, setting her on the counter and nipping at her throat. “But if I can’t have an old fantasy of mine, I should take advantage of having you all alone.”

“We’re going to be late.” Her legs wrapped around his waist though and she tipped her head back for him. She shivered when his hands slipped under her shirt.

“I think that everyone will understand.” And as he proceeded to take her apart with his hands, his mouth, made her quiver with pleasure, she realized that there were more important things than being on time. Christmas was, after all, a time for family and love. And she had plenty of that right here, with Reborn.
