Apparently the Sci Fi channel is planning on making a six-hour miniseries of Neal Stephenson's Diamond Age that thankfully Stephenson will be adapting his own novel for this project. Oddly enough, Clooney's Smokehouse ( Read more... )

That's pretty cool (it's the only Stephenson book I've read, and it took two tries). I'm not sure 6 hours is enough, though.

Clooney as in George Clooney?

yeah that is the one, but he is currently only reported as a producer...
I just cannot imagine him as any of the characters.

Is six hours enough, probably not considering each of those hours is probably only 45 min without the commercials, but it is a hell of a lot better than an hour and a half if it went to the big screen.

That is excellent, although personally I feel Snow Crash would translate better to television.

Yeah, the flow of Snow Crash probably would lend itself better to the medium.
Though one possibility with Diamond Age, if it could be a full TV series rather than a miniseries, is more time spent with Princess Nell's time spent exploring the Primer. That just by itself could be a series by itself.

Best TV news I've heard in a long time. They really should adapt more scifi/fantasy books to video formats... especially if it means they will focus less on video game to movie adaptations. That's one fad I hope dies off for a while.
